The second episode opens, ominously, with the opening bars of the slow movement from the 7th symphony over which we hear excerpts from a suicide note to his brothers that Beethoven wrote in 1802. He never sent the note and persevered despite his depression.  In this episode we hear excerpts from every movement of the third and sixth symphonies and other compositions.  19 excerpts in all.  In this broad overview of Beethoven’s music no one composition is heard for very long but those wishing to hear every piece can purchase a companion download containing every excerpt in its entirety.  The companion download for this second episode is three hours long.
